Chat (/chat) combines direct messages, place-based group rooms, political entity threads, and games lobbies. Local rooms unlock when your home town is set.
Step-by-step
1Open Chat in the nav or go to /chat.
2Direct messages: start from a member profile (?dm=slug) or an existing connection in the sidebar.
3Group chats: town and regional rooms appear when your home address matches; set home town in profile/settings if rooms are locked.
4Political discussions: open Discuss on a politics action to join its entity chat, or use ?politicalActionItem= on /chat.
5Community events are sometimes discussed in the external NoChat:Events Affinity group — not inside in-app Chat.
6Use tabs in the chat UI to switch between connections, social place chats, politics, and games lobbies.
